More reasons and dosages for melatonin

Hi Roc, Feel free to take your melatonin every day. It is one of the rare hormones with no biofeed-back loop. Whatever your melatonin level, your pineal gland will produce the same amount...that is decreasing with age...unfortunately...Kind regards, Eric

more benefits of melatonin –
1) It antagonizes ovarian aging. R Zhu et al, Genes & x, 2020 - It delays oncogene-induced senscence.

2) It suppresses the replicative senescence of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs).
The study had two phases:
1. human adipose tissue‐derived MSCs were ex-vivo treated with melatonin
2. MSCs harvested from a murine hindlimb ischemia model treated ex-vivo

treated with melatonin before transplantation back the same mice.Melatonin and vitamin D for COVID: I have been recommending vitamin D and high dose melatonin for COVID-19. Vitamin D for prevention but the high dose melatonin only for treatment if you catch COVID-19 and to be taken mainly if you start experiencing a lot of inflammation or signs of pneumonia. Btw if you already take melatonin for some other purpose of course continue taking that but consider raising the dose a lot if you catch COVID-19 and are getting pretty sick from it.

Now even more evidence is emerging indicating that vitamin D and melatonin may be beneficial. A preliminary study on vitamin D just found a much lower prevalence of serious COVID-19 in those with high levels of vitamin D in their blood compared to those with low levels. Also doctors in the Philippines are reporting on high dose melatonin showing good results for protecting organs and helping recovery in patients with severe COVID-19. Note that both of these are unpublished results so this is not proven to work yet but the evidence is getting stronger and both vitamin D and melatonin are inexpensive and very safe so I would strongly recommend taking plenty of vitamin D for prevention and to keep melatonin at hand in case of infection.

From the articles:

"A multinomial logistic regression analysis reported that for each standard deviation increase in serum 25(OH)D, the odds of having a mild clinical outcome rather than a severe outcome were approximately 7.94 times (OR=0.126, p<0.001) while interestingly, the odds of having a mild clinical outcome rather than a critical outcome were approximately 19.61 times (OR=0.051, p<0.001). The results suggest that an increase in serum 25(OH)D level in the body could either improve clinical outcomes or mitigate worst (severe to critical) outcomes, while a decrease in serum 25(OH)D level in the body could worsen clinical outcomes of COVID-2019 patients. In conclusion, this study provides substantial information to clinicians and health policy-makers. Vitamin D supplementation could possibly improve clinical outcomes of patients infected with COVID-2019."

"The Manila Doctors Hospital in the Philippines is the first in the world to try high-dose melatonin for high-risk COVID-19 patients. According to reports, several of the patients who were given the hormone already had adult respiratory distress syndrome prior to taking melatonin, but they all survived."
