SUBJ: Lots of discoveries support taking a niacin supplement
SUBtitle: Reading hard copy better than on a screen
SHORT NOTES: Three discoveries show how important it is to take supplemental niacin; Reading comprehension scores were higher when reading on paper vs on screen; CDC recommends 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise weekly; There was a suggestive link between polypharmacy and depression ; The average American salary is $53,838; Four-in-ten U.S. adults say they live in a household with a gun; a way found to stop cancer metastasis during chemotherapy; a drug is designed to reduce protein misfolding (same result as MITO-C); calcification of heart valves is currently resolved by transplanting a new prosthetic valve (Triumph is designed to reduce calcification); Repair runner’s knee with non-surgical Regenerative Orthopedics; a lot of results that suggest age reversal may be possible in the near future; a woman has had gene therapy to lengthen her telomeres.
LONG NOTES:
Niacin 1: (Note niacin, nicotinamide, and NAD+ are all related to vitamin B3) Those who got the most niacin in their diets had much slower mental decline than those who got the least niacin. "We observed a protective association of niacin against the development of Alzheimer's disease and cognitive decline within normal levels of dietary intake," Morris and colleagues conclude. Niacin 2: Nicotinamide, the amide form of vitamin B3, is widely used in disease treatments and stem cell applications. However, nicotinamide’s impact often cannot be attributed to its nutritional functions. In a vitamin screen, we find that nicotinamide promotes cell survival and differentiation in human pluripotent stem cells. Nicotinamide inhibits the phosphorylation of myosin light chain, suppresses actomyosin contraction, and leads to improved cell survival after individualization. Further analysis demonstrates that nicotinamide is an inhibitor of multiple kinases, including ROCK and casein kinase 1. We demonstrate that nicotinamide affects human embryonic stem cell pluripotency and differentiation as a selective kinase inhibitor. The findings in this report may help researchers design better strategies to develop nicotinamide-related stem cell applications and disease treatments.
Niacin 3: A decline in NAD+ is a feature of ageing and may play a causal role in the process. NAD+ plays a pivotal role in myriad processes important in cellular metabolism and is a cosubstrate for enzymes that play key roles in pathways that modify ageing. Thus, interventions that increase NAD+ may slow aspects of the ageing trajectory and there is great interest in pharmacological NAD+ restoration. Dietary supplementation with NAD+ precursors, particularly nicotinamide riboside, has increased NAD+ levels in several human intervention studies and arguably been the most robust approach to date.
A small study of 34 Japanese university students tested respiratory and brain activity while reading in both digital and paper format. Reading comprehension scores were higher when reading on paper. One strong sign of this was the number of sighs, or deep breaths, which are linked to improved cognition. More than twice the number of sighs were recorded when reading on paper.
CDC recommends 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise weekly. Standing frequently lowers your blood sugar, triglycerides and total cholesterol levels. Ten or more hours daily sitting raises risk of heart disease and stroke.
There was a suggestive link between polypharmacy and depression among Chinese older adults.
The average American salary is $53,838 according to 2021 Social Security Administration.
Four-in-ten U.S. adults say they live in a household with a gun, including 30% who say they personally own one,
Stopping cancer spreading during chemotherapy. A doctorate student has discovered that the LOX enzyme plays a major role in helping cancer spread (metastasis) when the patient is having chemotherapy. Inhibiting LOX protects the patient from this deadly effect. Chemotherapy induces prometastatic pulmonary ECM remodeling by upregulating LOX in T cells, which can be targeted with LOX inhibitors to suppress metastasis
We have the cure inside us. Scientists at Israel’s Technion Institute have found that misfolding proteins in the brain cells of ALS and Huntingdon’s sufferers can be corrected by other proteins already in the cell, called “chaperones”. But the cell doesn’t activate them or activates the wrong ones! New treatments are anticipated. TRY MITO-C designed to reduce protein misfolding.
Repairing heart valves without replacing. The calcification of heart valves is currently resolved by transplanting a new prosthetic valve. Israel’s Pi-Cardia has been developing the Leaflex system to treat the calcification, and is currently conducting human clinical trials across Europe. TRIUMPH IS DESIGNED TO REDUCE CALCIFICATION.
Repair runner’s knee with non-surgical Regenerative Orthopedics (PRP, Stem Cells, and Prolotherapy)! Along with muscle strengthening, Regenerative Orthopedics can relieve the pain and speed up the process of normalizing the patellar tracking in Runner’s Knee.
The Prospect of Human Age Reversal – a lot of results that suggest age reversal may be possible in the near future.
Liz Parrish of BioViva, an age extension company, has had gene therapy to lengthen her telomeres, and claims in this video that it has been successful
