SUBJ: Vigorous exercise maintains aging muscles

SUBtitle: Iron and calcium from supplements are hazardous to health

SHORT NOTES: The easy way to maintain muscles as you age is just vigorous exercise; Roc note:The average US diet provides all the iron and calcium you need. Supplemental doses are hazardous;  NAD prevents cancer actually by correcting DNA damage [but vitamin B3/niacin is safest way to boost NAD+]; The long-held belief that prostate cancer risk is related to high serum androgen concentrations can no longer be supported;   A new study showing that "improved dietary habits and increased physical activity" can reduce methylation epigenetic age.

LONG NOTES:

People lose approximately 3 to 8 percent of their muscle mass per decade after the age of 30 (and even more after 60) (10.1097/01.mco.0000134362.76653.b2). The easy way to maintain muscles as you age is just lifting weights and keeping your musculoskeletal system in good working order as you age so that you can keep your muscles young. This works by forcing your muscles to keep muscle stem cells (satellite cells) in abundance because they’re needed to repair muscle damage that happens when lifting weights.

[Roc note:The average US diet provides all the iron and calcium you need. Supplemental doses are hazardous]. Iron: an underrated factor in aging. Iron is an essential element for virtually all living organisms, but its reactivity also makes it potentially harmful. Iron accumulates with aging, and is associated with many age-related diseases; it also shortens the lifespans of several model organisms.

NAD prevents cancer actually by correcting DNA damage. This is all basically accepted by NAD scientists.  There is still a lot we don’t know.  But once cancer exists we don’t know if cancer would proliferate faster.  Because cancer uses PARP to correct its own dna damage. And regular cells have many avenues of DNA correction, it theoretically makes sense that this could speed up cancer once it happens   However, NAD boosts the immune system.   So they may cancel things out   We don’t know.  But one thing is believed.  NAD is not carcinogenic.  And precursors of nad have been used for decades.  One mega doser of niacin lived to 110. The NAD⁺ Treatment Center feels that they offer something incredible for drug addiction, chronic fatigue or pain or has problems with anxiety and depression.  The NAD treatment center feels that they have the best detox for alcohol and opiates.  Check out NADtreatmentcenter.com and the podcast, http://www.nadtreatmentcenter.com/ben-greenfield-podcast/

Testosterone - Context: Decades-old beliefs regarding androgens and prostate cancer (PCa) have undergone dramatic shifts in light of modern evidence and new theoretical constructs, but considerable confusion remains on this topic, particularly with regard to the use of testosterone therapy in men with any history of PCa. Conclusions: The long-held belief that PCa risk is related to high serum androgen concentrations can no longer be supported. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24011426/
